Thunderbirds to Join Blue Angels at KC Air Show for 4th of July Weekend
In a last minute addition, the KC Air Show announced Monday afternoon that the United States Air Force Thunderbirds will be joining the United States Navy Blue Angels in headlining the 2021 show on fourth of July weekend.
This weekend will mark the second time the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds have joined up in 2021, the first being back in March during a joint training evolution at NAF El Centro, California, the winter home of the Blue Angels. During this meetup, both teams debuted a joint formation known as the “Super Delta.”
While just the second meetup in 2021, the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds spent a lot of time together during 2020, touring the United States during Operation America Strong. However, this weekend in Kansas City will be the first time since May 10-12, 2019 that both teams have performed together at the same air show, the last show being Joint Base Andrews’ bi-annual Air & Space Expo.
The KC Air Show’s addition of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds strengthens its already historic performer lineup, which in addition to the Blue Angels includes the GEICO Skytypers, the U.S. Army Golden Knights, the U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III Demonstration Team, Skip Stewart, Mike Goulian, Shockwave Jet Truck, and more.
